Thirty years ago on the riverbanks of Wentworth NSW, where the Darling meets the Murray, the late former Prime Minister Bob Hawke delivered his speech to kick-off the national formation of the Landcare movement. His iconic address marked an unprecedented union between farmers and conservationists coming together to form a national Landcare model to help protect the Australian landscape for future generations.

And three decades later on this very same spot, Sophie Taylor-Price, Landcare 30 Year Anniversary ambassador, will make a major announcement as she honours her grandfather’s legacy with a native tree-planting and an unveiling of a commemorative educational sign paying tribute to his historical address.

The event will also mark Landcare Week (Sep 2 – 8) where every year thousands of Australians from all walks of life come together to recognise and celebrate the tireless efforts and commitment of farmers, land managers, Landcare facilitators, and Landcare groups and volunteers who help protect and rehabilitate the natural environments of this great land we call home.
